It has been confirmed that repairs to Loughborough’s town hall, which was damaged by fire, will be made in the same “like for like” fashion.
On 15 March, a fire broke out in the HSBC branch located next to this Grade II-listed building.
Water and smoke damages were also caused to the other areas of the venue.
The planning documents state that tiles will be taken off to gain access to the rafters damaged by fire, but other features of the building will remain untouched.
Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that the building was built in 1855, and it became a theater in 1980.
The building also houses the Sock Art Gallery. It hosts live music, comedy and drama, as well as the annual pantomime of the town.
The fire caused the seats to need to be cleaned thoroughly and there were inspections of ventilation, air-conditioning, electricity, and heating. Shows had been cancelled, and it took three weeks for the venue’s reopening.
A turret of the Grade-II building was badly damaged and deemed unsafe.
The police evacuated shops nearby due to smoke that was billowing into the buildings and along the roads.
Documents state that the works “will not impact any visible features internally or externally, and will only affect the roof structure hidden from view.”
The project was not given a detailed budget or time frame, but the public can comment on its plans until the 31st October
