After returning from an errand, the Lustigs were shocked to find their house completely engulfed by flames.
It hasn’t yet hit me, but my wife broke down. I am sure that it will later. “We were out for ten minutes, thank God we weren’t in,” said Lustig.
The Taylor, Rehobeth and Bay Springs Fire Departments all responded shortly after 9:00 a.m. to the residence when they were notified that there was fire coming out of the rear corner.
Although the cause of the fire is not known, the house has suffered extensive interior and roof damage.
At the time, the only person inside the home was Princess Peach.
When they opened the doors, she immediately ran out. They gave her oxygen. “My little girl is going to be so happy after school when she sees that she survived because she lost all her belongings in there”, Lustig said.
Some of the items were still saved.
The motorcycle that Lustig has owned for over 30 years, was saved thanks to the many fire departments present on the scene. Neighbors also helped by removing items from the home.
They saved many old photos. My father had been in the Holocaust Museum up North and they kept many of his photographs. They are looking after us, they’re my neighbors and my church family,” Lustig said.
It was only a minor damage for Lustig to his neighbor, who had the vinyl side removed.
Nick Floyd, Rehobeth’s Fire Chief says that the vinyl siding is still intact. “There was no damage to their overhead so that they were still in good condition,” he said.
The Lustigs will temporarily stay with the church across the street.
A house fire is being tackled by multiple emergency services in Taylor’s 300 block Ameris Avenue.
Around 9:06 am, Taylor Fire and Rescue and Rehobeth Fire and Rescue as well as Hodgesville Volunteer Fire and Rescue were on the scene.
Taylor Volunteer Fire confirmed there was no one home, except for an animal that was safely removed without harm.
Fire caused extensive damage to the roof of the house and also damaged another home nearby. At this point, the cause of the fire cannot be determined.
