Over 20 firefighters battled an blaze that broke out in a restaurant.
A fire broke out at the Lime Tree Restaurant on Bolton Road in Farnworth.
The police were present throughout the entire day and had road closures put in place.
Five fire engines, including specialist units, were mobilised to fight the blaze.
Bolton Road, between St Peter’s Way near its intersection and Gladstone Road was closed all afternoon.
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said that at around 12:40pm, on Monday November 27, firefighters were dispatched to a report of an fire in a commercial property on Bolton Road.
Five fire engines, including the turntable ladder and drone unit from Bolton Central as well as five other stations (Bolton Central, Bolton North and Salford), as well as the turntable ladder from Bolton Central were mobilized quickly to respond.
Firefighters in breathing equipment are using specialist equipment and three hose reels to put out the fire that broke out on the roof.
The GMFRS crews are still on the scene.
The fire began to spread as the day progressed. It started in the restaurant and then moved onto the roof of a house next door.
In the rooflight, one firefighter was visible.
On the scene, at least eight fire engines were visible.
A witness stated: “I called it at 12:45pm. As I walked to the store, smoke was pouring from the roof.
It was pouring when I passed.
“A man was in the downstairs restaurant. I banged on the windows to let him out.”
As soon as firefighters arrived, they evacuated everyone from the houses next to them.
A witness added: “I saw fire coming from the building, as well as a crane with a spike poking out of it.”
Around 3.30pm the fire seemed to be under control. A lot of tiles had been taken off the roof.
A large hole was found in the roof.
The policeman on the scene confirmed that they were present to assist with firefighting. Paramedics and firefighters were both also in attendance.
