They add that every night they are out in the street to deter those who commit the home burglaries they say they suffer. The residents are unarmed, and have no security training. They use thermal cameras and powerful flashlights. Residents of Puertosol, in Puerto de la Torre, decided to respond to the “insecurity” they perceive in their area after several house invasions, and the recent “looting” of a home by some criminals. They organize their protection through their cell phones. We go out around 8 p.m. when the night falls. We each position ourselves in different places and alert anyone we suspect. “We want to scare people away,” a resident who’s part of this group told the newspaper. These urban patrols began nightly patrols on Saturday.

The owners of many homes, who are elderly, fear them entering their home. They say they know the risks they take, but feel compelled to confront the thieves. Some are afraid to return to their home and find an intruder, which has happened before. We don’t understand why an urbanization with over 400 single-family houses and more than 2,000 residents doesn’t provide a security plan. One person affected by the situation said, “We feel abandoned.” Although the community is protected by private security, the guards are not armed and cannot stop any thieves despite being surprised.

According to one neighbor, these perpetrators “have all houses controlled” in this area. He says, “We leave the house and they’re inside in under 5 minutes.” Last week they took only 25 minutes to empty a house in one of their latest incidents. He warns that “they were waiting until she came out.” Mari Angeles, the president of Mari Angeles’ neighborhood, believes that these suspects “are young people in their 20s” based on the agility with which they “jump from house to home.” In their wake they “tear the motion sensors” off of the home security systems that have been installed by many homeowners.

The alarms went off again on Saturday. Malaga Hoy reports that the victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, left his home around 6:30 pm. The victim set off the alarm, and shortly thereafter received notification from the central offices that someone had entered his home. He says that in the images, you can clearly see the burglar crawling and crouching on his hands and knees to avoid the detector.

According to the assailant, he “entered the room overlooking the pool,” yet he did not succeed in his objective. I have armored doors on the upper and lower levels. “The alarm system caught the thief, and he started snapping photos using flashes. He ran away.” says the owner, who claimed that she alerted Police, but they arrived earlier. According to his account, they returned the same evening, but failed again. He explains that at 3:00 in the morning, the criminals arrived on a neighbor’s property. The neighbors started chasing them around with their dogs. The woman has been sleeping with “fear” ever since. We go to sleep wondering when they’ll return. “We are helpless,” laments he.

Owners in the affected area have sent letters to the Malaga City Council, the National Police, and to the Subdelegation of the Government to ask for “a plan on police presence.” Moreover, he hopes “surveillance will be carried out in the Urbanization.” In just a week there were “five attempts/robberies in different houses with total impunity”, according to the letter. It also reflects the author’s modus operandi, which is always searching for gold and money. . They “don’t feel shame” about entering their victims’ homes. The assailants appear “uncovered” even though the surveillance images taken by their neighbors show them wearing a balaclava to cover their faces. They wear gloves to make it harder for possible fingerprints to be collected.

In a statement, the residents criticize the Police for their “practically non-existent response” and lack of intervention when the property owners notified them. This, the residents claim, is what “motivated more robberies.” They warned in the letter that “if neglect and abandonment continue,” then they will have to “conduct urban patrols to defend their rights to prevent further robberies, or personal misfortune.”

This newspaper has been informed by the Provincial Police Station of Malaga that an investigation is ongoing to determine the truth. He calls on calmness and stresses that three incidents occurred within the Puertosol Urbanization in the last week. These were the ones that happened the 10th through the 11th of the month, and the most recent one, which took place this past Saturday. The perpetrators of two attempted robberies “couldn’t access” the inside of the house, so they were unable to complete one robbery. Researchers emphasize the fact that assaults have “significantly decreased in chalet-type properties compared with previous years.” No arrests have yet been made.

While neighbors continue to warn they’ll “control anyone who enters” the plots, it is important that you do not let them get away with this. One of the property owners argues that if they haven’t stolen any more, it is because we prevented it. The other residents are responsible for maintaining their security from home. The older generation does not want to leave the lights on in order to deter thieves. “The urbanization has become more illuminated,” say the experts.
